Tatreez Bookmark Set - Palestinian Symbols
These hand-embroidered Tatreez bookmarks are more than simple bookmarks. They bear powerful Palestinian symbols and tell stories of identity, memory, and resistance.
What is Tatreez?
Tatreez is a traditional Palestinian embroidery art passed down by women for centuries. Each motif carries meaning and is an expression of cultural belonging, history, and strength.
Each bookmark is a handmade, unique item.
Dheisheh Camp and social impact
These bookmarks are carefully handcrafted by women from the Dheisheh camp near Bethlehem. For many women there, tatreez is an important source of income and a way to preserve their cultural identity.
With your purchase, you directly support these women and help preserve their work and knowledge for future generations.
The designs in this set:
Handala – symbol of resistance
Two bookmarks depict Handala, the iconic figure of the Palestinian resistance. The barefoot boy with his back to the world represents steadfastness, hope, and the right of return.
• a Handala motif in black and white
• a Handala motif in colorful embroidery
The Key – Memory and Hope
The third bookmark shows a hand-embroidered key in red stitching. The key symbolizes the homes that many Palestinian families had to leave in 1948 and the continuing right of return.
